( Even though this article mentions mostly India, this applies true for Pakistan cricket fans too) Even though hockey is the national game of India it is no where close to the popularity of the "unofficial" national sport "cricket". Every other child in India at some point imagines if he could become a famous cricket player than it will change his life. Cricket is mainly a male dominated game, even though there are girls only team all over India nothing matches the heat and enthusiasm generated in general public in the prominent matches of male only teams. Players are almost worshipped by their fans and there is a huge expectation in public for them to perform well in the game. Popular cricketers in Indian cricket world include Kapil Dev, Sachin Tendulkar, Dhoni, Anil Kumble, Ganguly, Dravid, Gavaskar, Srikanth and many more. Famous cricketers in Pakistan team include: Afridi, Sohaib Akhtar, Wasim Akram, Misbah-ul-Haq and more. How famous is Cricket in India and Pakistan: It truly runs in the blood of majority of Indian and Pakistan citizens, if time permits most Indians/Pakistanis will be glued to there televisions especially in the 1 day or 20-20 form of cricket. People in the stadium often paint their faces and Indian flags wave all over the the stadium. The match which generates most excitement is a India-Pakistan match. They are traditional rivals and both countries are equally famous for their love for cricket. Cricket was introduced in both countries by British people when they were under British rule. Cricket is like baseball but there are two bases instead of four. It is a much faster and enthusiastic game than baseball and scoring/runs are made at a much faster pace. There have been special domestic tournaments called IPL and ICL, which are becoming very famous too. Popular national teams in cricket include: India, Pakistan, Australia, South Africa, England, West Indies (Caribbean), Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
