In the earlier days, the children were taught to write using pencil and pen first. Now, before they learn to hold a pencil/pen, they are learning to use a computer. In India, just like having a TV, refrigerator or a grinder, computer has entered every home very casually. Why everybody needs to use computer? Previously, those studying computer science as part of their education were using computers at school and the rich people started purchasing computer for their children, as the price was very high at that time. Day by day the price of computer is decreasing and much advanced models with new features are being introduced everyday. Even the poor and middle class people in India are now ready to meet the cost of purchasing a computer and the cost of computer literacy in India is tactfully managed. All offices, organizations, banks and shops are using computer for their day to day work. The doctors and lawyers perform their work using a computer. The computer literacy has become the basic qualification in the job world now. Everybody using computer need not require to master in writing programs. It is enough for the majority of the people to know the basics, to operate some menu driven programs written by somebody, to type some simple commands, learn to make mouse clicks, to use word processor, to use internet to send and receive mail. In the beginning many people feared to touch the keyboard and see the monitor. At reasonable cost, the computer basics are taught now in many institutes. After learning the basics of computer, the interested people start learning about hard ware, software, application programs, database management and writing software. In schools and colleges, the students learn about computers as part of their studies. The computer literacy speaks about the knowledge necessary to cope up with computer based society. The computer literacy flavor has entered the rural areas also. Even there, the computer and internet are common terms. Many farmers are using computers and have become computer literates. First they feared that it is a dead investment to purchase a computer, load software and learn to use computers. The lack of time and less interest were the main reasons among common people to use computer. Some people feel that they could spend hours together before TV watching mega serials and cinema programs but the computer screen could not create much impact on them. The training and troubleshooting were the important issues that remain unsolved in many places. The job opportunities are open for people who have special talents in the hot fields. In the computer field everyday a new subject is entering, a new technique is introduced, a new software comes to the market and is it possible to learn everything? The computer literacy talks about learning the basics but the cost of it, pushes us to learn more and more in the field. The cost of sending and receiving emails could not be compared with the cost of telephonic conversation, sending message through letter or fax. Moreover as the email reaches the receiver within few seconds, who could spend more time for sending it by post. Many people now have got friends and relatives at foreign countries. We could greet our nears and dears through online greetings which is a boon to everyone. The chatting and browsing introduce us more wonders in the computer field. The online booking of tickets, online shopping and online business attract many computer literates to know more about these. The national and international news reach us within seconds through internet, which make many people as computer literates. The online books attract many people who have got interest in reading books. The key to open the door of success is to become a computer literate first. The accuracy of results, elimination of repetitive jobs and higher productivity are the main causes of success of computer literacy. The people in India are prepared to pay the social, economic, personal and financial cost s as computer literacy has become an inseparable part of our life. The cyber tour is suitable for all ages. For adults, learning the basics are important. The children may be permitted to learn more and more. We have to concentrate on positive aspects of computer literacy and try to make everybody in India a computer literate.
