Communication blues slammed! Speak with grace and confidenceBY: Abhi | Category: Self Improvement | Post Date: 2009-10-04
By Abhi , Mass Communication, University of Calcutta It is only owing to the fact that the world has become so competitive that communication stands a must though the contrary remains the belief. Communicating on a person-to-person level, intra-communication combined with inter-communication and mass communication is what Communication on the whole encompasses. Common Problems: • Lack of fluency • Shortage of words • Deficiency in English speaking • Nervousness • Self consciousness • Inability to recall & use the right words at the right time • Shyness, introversion and intimidation. Hesitance is the biggest impediment to communication. Like unfitness keeps one out of the game, hesitance keeps one out of the arena of communication. To overcome the problems confidence must peep in and for that inhibitions need to shed. To be able to speak within a number of people is a challenge for the introvert and also for non-introverts. The feeling of inferiority attacks some people when in a group, and that makes them to choose remaining quiet instead of speaking and making a point. To cut and interrupt politely is a method of expressing views when amongst many people, since none has the time to plead anybody to speak and give anyone the floor. The tendency to become aggressive should not though creep in. The application of communication is found mainly in group discussions, interviews, workplace, normal but necessary person-to-person conversation on the roads, parties, and in the daily activities and elsewhere. Also during delivering speeches and sermons this entity is a prerequisite Effective communication skills can be obtained by means of: • Spoken English course • The practice of talking and conversing in English in every walk of life • The doing away with inhibitions, hesitance, nervousness and consciousness • Practicing free flowing fluency • Increasing stock of words by reading voraciously • Using the mirror properly Expressions play a pivotal role in communication and to make sure the words are coupled with the appropriate expressions the last point should be referred to. Written communication is, on a larger scale easier as quoted by many in contrast to spoken communication which evokes apprehension in many but at the same time cannot be neglected due to its growing need in the fast paced world. Almost in every sector, good spoken communication skills are looked for, and of course the field of media and communication itself is booming making it all the more necessary to be able to communicate. So best of luck.... Communicate with ease and conquer the world!
