Cocaine drug addiction is very dangerous, shortens a person's life and also ruins various relationships. It causes many health and social problems. Cocaine is actually a white powder that comes from the coca plant grown in Peru, Bolivia and Colombia. The Inca royals initially reserved coca plants for use. Later, the rest of the people of these countries started using these plants.

The people exploited the plant for its stimulating properties to ward off hunger and fatigue. It also helped them to have a feeling of well being. The Spanish people later used these leaves to pay the Inca people who worked in their fields. This helped the Inca people to work more. The increased ability to work made people start using more and more cocaine.

Even Physicians started recommending use of cocaine in those days for their patients to reduce stress. Cocaine was commonly used to treat depression. It was also used to treat conditions such as alcoholic and morphine addiction.

In the early twentieth century, the popularity of cocaine slowly started fading with the increased document .tion of the ill effects of cocaine. When the restriction on use of cocaine was made by governments around the world, smuggling of cocaine started.

Cocaine is also known as coke, C, flake or blow. It is commonly snorted into the nostrils or rubbed into the lining of the mouth. Some people also inject it to increase the effects. It can also be smoked.

Effects of cocaine:

1. It produces a feeling of euphoria,
increased alertness and energy. The user also becomes highly sensitive to light, touch and sound. Along with these feelings, the person also becomes violent, anxious and panicky.

2. The rate of breathing increases and the body temperature rises.

3. Cocaine users may also develop tremors, dizziness, muscle spasms, paranoia and toxic poisoning.

4. Repeated use of cocaine can lead to hallucinations.

5. Infected needles used to inject cocaine can also transmit viruses that cause hepatitis and AIDS.

6. The user needs a higher and frequent doses to maintain their level of addiction.

7. Regular cocaine use causes hypertension, convulsions and stroke.

8. Use of cocaine by pregnant female causes decrease blood supply to the fetus. The baby also has a smaller circumference of the head at birth.

These are the major complications and health effects caused by the use of cocaine. Addiction to cocaine is very common in the men than women. The younger age groups are more often addicted to cocaine than the people of older age groups.
