Sage Line 50 is the UK's leading accounts package and is used by many different types of Business for both the normal accounts functions such as Sales Ledger, Purchase Ledger, Nominal Ledger, Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet, but also further more business orientated functions such as Sales Order Processing, Purchase Order Processing and Stock Control. Sage Line 50 is generally very good at meeting the users' requirements in all of these, but in the case of Electronic Point of Sale (EPoS) and Warehouse Management the Sage functionality provided by Sage is at best clunky and at worse non-existent. These difficulties lead to very slow inefficient and error prone order processing in a retail environment and poor stock control and order management in a wholesale or distribution environment. Where the retail outlet or warehouse is located geographically remote from the location of the accounts department, for example where the fulfillment of orders have been sub contracted to a specialist company like TNT Fulfillment in Abingdon then Sage is very difficult or impossible to use and alternative solutions, if they exist, are very expensive. In addition Sage Line 50 is very well supported and understood by the accounting community so there is generally reluctance, and a significant barrier to moving to an alternative accounting solution.
