Celebrating birthdays at office is a new trend. It is a vital factor to create an enjoying and funny environment at the workplace and to retain the employees. Therefore organizations are now increasingly allowing such celebrations, some even contributing a small amount towards the employee's birthday celebration.

Let me tell you about the way of birthday celebrations done at my office. We have a team of around forty people at office. Whenever we have a birthday, everybody contributes money, or something or the other for the birthday celebration, except birthday boy or birthday girl. On the day of birthday, exactly at twelve O'clock we all gather together in cafeteria. We make the birthday guy or girl to cut the cake. All the team members sing a birthday song when the birthday boy/girl cuts the cake. Then the birthday boy or birthday girl cuts and offers the cake to all the team members of office and in turn the team members feed the cake to birthday boy or birthday girl. To spice up, we even apply the cake to the face of birthday boy or birthday girl.

Then, we handover the birthday gift to birthday boy or birthday girl. Later he/she has to give a short speech, sharing the sweet moments with the team. That is really an emotional moment. We have the provision that, birthday boy or birthday girl can come in casual dress that day. So it makes everyone around identify the birthday boy/girl and to wish him, without fail. It has been a trend in our office that the birthday boy/girl comes with costume kind of wears.

I have started an additional initiative of sending a mail to team by writing some lines starting with the letters of the name of birthday boy or birthday girl. I add some funny comments to it. So, the entire team enjoys it. The right time to tease a person is on his or her birthday. I had never seen birthday boy or birthday girl getting offended on the birthday for anything funny I write about him or her.
