Breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancers that are seen in women. There are various stages of severity seen in women with breast cancer. This is because of the late presentation of the person to the medical care. A person affected by breast cancer should be able to identify it early and also go to the hospital to get it treated. This will help to get it cured.

There are various methods of identifying breast cancer and the person who is affected by this type of cancer should be able to identify the breast cancer early. All women should have the knowledge of the signs and the symptoms of breast cancer for them to be able to identity the condition. They should also undergo regular check up each year so that any changes can be identified early for adequate treatment. Mammogram should also be done at regular intervals to identify the condition.

The treatment of the breast cancer can be specific and also depends on the severity of the disease. The breast cancer could have started as a primary cancer or could have spread from another area.

Treatment for breast cancer:

1. Chemotherapy:


This is the first line of treatment and should be given for all women who have breast cancer. The person who has breast cancer is given a combination of various drugs that help to destroy the targeted cells because of their toxicity. When the cells and tissues are destroyed, sometimes normal tissues may also be damaged. There my also be various side effects because of the toxicity of the drugs that are given. Hair loss and vomiting are some of the common side effects of the chemotherapy that is given as treatment.

2. Radiation therapy:

Radiation therapy is also given to the people who suffer from breast cancer. This helps to destroy the tissues that are cancerous through the radiation. The radiation is targeted at the cancerous cells. This too can have various side effects. Head ache is one of the side effects of this kind of therapy.

3. Surgery:

Surgery is an important option in those affected by breast cancer. If the person does not have any secondaries, then the affected breast is usually removed surgically to prevent the cancer cells from spreading to other parts of the body. So surgery can be used as a measure to prevent further spread of the disease.

4. Palliative care:

Those women who have had a severe complication or if the disease has had secondary cancers, then the person may not respond to treatment. This kind of patients needs palliative care because the person is in the end stage disease.

5. Counseling:

Counseling is a part of the treatment at all stages of the disease. This is because counseling will help to prevent the person from feeling depressed and also help the patient to cope with the existing disease.

These are the various treatment options available for a person affected by breast cancer. Early diagnosis is very important for success of the treatment.
