In writing this article I can only go by my personal experience and observance of the straight relationship. I hope to inform the reader that there appears to be only slight differences when it comes to the two types of relationships.

My lover and I met back in 1990. We have been together 18 years strong. In that time I can certify pretty much every aspect of a Lesbian relationship.

During our 18 years of loyalty, I have had the opportunity to observed many straight relationships. Some relationships last while others do not. Gay or straight there really is no difference here.

Throughout our state of having something in common, there have been ups and downs, good and bad, trial and error yet and still through it all we've managed to take and accept the good with the bad. Thus enabling us to create one of the most awesome, influential and invigorating of relationships. You see, if two people work together for the greater of causes, then the relationship undoubtedly will flourish over the years. Over the course of the years we've learned some key eliminate to keeping a relationship vitalized and new. One aspect of a hearty relationship that we poses is that we help one another to move forward in life. In a word it's called "support." Without the support from one another our relationship would be void.

Another factor which is indispensable has to be trust and integrity. Without this facet, the relation dwendles slowly but surely. When we began dating it was a very exciting, inspiring and robust experience. It seemed we simply could not get enough of seeing each other and were rarely seen without one another.

During our dating one of the things we liked to do was to take walks through the park. I couldn't help but notice other straight couples passing by. Some are holding hands, others are walking arm in arm. Some couples are talking, some are laughing and others just seem to be enjoying each others company. Then I think to myself, turn to my spouse, smile and say, "I wish we could show our affection openly like they can." Unless we want to endure the long and hard stares we simply choose not to hold hands.

In March of 2007, there was an emergency of sorts in our relationship. I was hospitalized for eleven days. I lost my hearing. During the initial hospital intake, my spouse was not allowed to enter my room or help in giving any
information regarding me as her lover even though we've been together 18 years. They only wanted immediate family or perhaps my husband which I don't have. If we had been allowed to get legally married, we would not have had such a difficult time. Ultimately, my lover ended up having to call my mother who is not even in the same state in order to give the doctors permission for her to be with me. To make a long story short, there in-lies a tremendous difference in the treatment of gay relationships vs. straight relationships.

In conclusion to the question are relationships between gay and straight any different, I would have to conclude that the only discrepancy I can see is that heterosexual couples can readily and easily marry, mate and have children and have access to one another during a crisis. This is the main reason why Gays and Lesbians wish to marry. Also Straight couples can openly show their effection in public without being gawked at.
