Are all energy drinks good for health?BY: chitracs | Category: Health and Fitness | Post Date: 2008-09-21
What are energy drinks? Energy drinks are soft drinks advertised as providing more energy than a typical drink. The energy drinks are canned or bottled beverages sold in shops, grocery stores, bars and nightclubs, in mixed drinks. Most energy drinks are carbonated drinks that contain large amounts of caffeine and sugar with additional ingredients, such as B vitamins, amino acids e.g. taurine, and herbal stimulants such as guarana. The energy drinks have been advertised that they convey strength, power, and speed. Energy drinks are sold everywhere. Some energy drinks are marketed to attract more and more adults and kids. But, we have to see how far the energy drinks are good for health. It is said that some drinks can cause problems both for athletes and for people who mix them with alcohol. Some countries have banned energy drinks which cause ill-health. The sports drinks do not have caffeine or taurine. For athletic activity, it's healthier to drink non-caffeinated, low-sugar beverages to prevent dehydration. Those who take energy drinks and do exercise should be very cautious, as the effect of caffeine may cause dehydration and strain to body. Some people say that taurine acts as a metabolic transmitter and has a detoxifying effect and many disagree with this statement. It is thought that the amino acid in taurine and the effect of caffeine may be the cause of this problem, although individually both of these point toward benefits but it looks like the combination together has an odd effect and that this is causing the reaction. The children watch TV all the time and they are attracted more by these energy drinks through colourful advertisements. Some students drink several cans of energy drinks daily to stay awake at night to study. The beverages in energy drinks may cause youngsters to be hyperactive and fidgety. Some people feel that taking of energy drinks make them feel alert and awake. The energy drinks may give a temporary energy boost. The sugar content in energy drinks causes weight gain. The caffeine is a stimulant but too much caffeine can cause adverse side effects, such as nervousness, irritability, increased blood pressure and insomnia. The caffeine can make heart beat faster and trigger abnormal heart rhythms, which is especially dangerous for those having heart problems. One more danger is that drinkers may be unaware of how intoxicated they are when they attempt to drive. Pregnant women and children should never drink energy drinks, at any cost. There are many methods to get energy when we are tired or run-down. Getting of adequate sleep, doing regular exercise and eating a healthy diet restore our energy level. These strategies not only will increase our energy in the short run, but also help us to maintain overall physical and mental fitness in the future. By drinking and eating good food helps to enable our body to achieve and maintain good health. Taking fresh fruits or fruit juices help up to get instant energy. Cereal is another form of good food for energy. We need not get addicted on energy drinks. So, stay away from energy drinks and lead a healthy life, in the natural way.
