Anti oxidants as the name indicates are those substances that prevent the oxidation of various substances in the body. These anti oxidants help to neutralize the various free radicals in the human body. This in turn helps to prevent the various bad effects that are caused by the free radicals on the health of a person. The common condition that is caused by these free radicals is carcinoma of various parts of the body. The consumption of the anti oxidants that is contained in various foods like fruits and vegetables help to make sure that the free radicals have a very minimal effect on the human body.

The fact is that though anti oxidants are very useful in various functions of the body, the body has only a very limited chance of producing these by itself. Instead, the body uses the various anti oxidants that are available in the fruits, vegetables and other foods that are consumed by the person.

The various sources of the antioxidants are as follows:

1. Anthocyanins:


This is a anti oxidant that is usually found in eggplants, grapes and also berries.

2. Catechins:

This is another of the important anti oxidants that are found in red wine and also tea.

3. Copper is an important element that also acts as an antioxidant. This is usually contained in foods like lean meat, milk, nuts and also various kinds of sea food

4. Flavonoids:

The flavonoids are an important group of anti oxidants that are usually very good for health. This is the anti oxidant that is found in foods like tea, green tea, red wine and all kinds of citrus fruits. It is also contained in apples and also onions.

5. Isoflavonoids:

This is a variation of the flavonoids and is found in foods like soybeans, tofu, lentils, peas and also milk. This is another important anti oxidant that helps in providing various kinds of protection for the person.

6. Vitamin C:

Vitamin C is also considered to be one of the other anti oxidants in the body. It is usually contained in foods like amla, oranges, lime, mangoes, broccoli, spinach, capsicum and also strawberries. The Vitamin C in the body prevents various diseases from occurring.

7. Manganese:

Manganese is an element that is found in many foods. These are very important for the good health of the person. It contains various anti oxidants properties that are part of the foods that are consumed which include those like seafood, lean meat, milk and also nuts.

8. Vitamin E:

Vitamin E is another important anti oxidant that is seen in the body. There are various kinds of foods that contain this anti oxidant and they include foods like vegetable oils like corn oil and rice bran oil. It is also found in avocados, nuts, seeds and whole grains.

These are some of the very common kinds of anti oxidants that are present. There are also many other kinds of anti oxidants that are present and they too have all the beneficial properties for the body.
