Alternate energy source is the buzz word nowadays. People everywhere keep talking of an alternate source of energy to the ones being already used. This talk for alternate energy reached a crescendo when the price of crude oil peaked and was at an all time high. Now with the prices cooling down, there has been less noise made about the alternate energy sources.

There are many alternate energy sources available to humans. Nature has gifted sources like water, air and other resources. Humans have used sources for energy from coal and found that it caused pollution and was messy. Then steam was used in engines. Later with the discovery of black gold, which is the crude oil, there was no looking back.

Crude oil has been used for various energy requirements. It has been used as a source of energy for vehicles. It has also been used in heating, to run generators and various other places. Alternate energy sources have been harnessed, but some of them have been found to be more expensive than the crude oil. These energy sources include air and water. Already hydro power is being used to produce electricity in a big way, but with acute water shortage and changes in seasons, there is an unpredictability associated with the hydro power.

Air is being harnessed to produce wind energy. The disadvantage of this is that big windmills are necessary to produce energy. These take up a lot of space and increased maintenance costs also have hampered the increased use of air as an energy source.

Future energy sources / Alternate energy sources:

1. Solar power: Though solar power is being used in many places, it has not caught the imagination of the people. It has been found that there are no harmful effects for the environment on using solar power. It also has been found to be an effective replacement to the electrical energy. Governments can give subsidy to increase the use of solar power in industries and also for domestic purposes.

2. Atomic energy: This is a futuristic goal of many countries. Now atomic power is being mainly utilised for military purposes. The atomic energy released is tremendous. This has made scientists to start experimenting with the use of atomic power for domestic purposes. Once the method has been accepted to produce atomic energy for civilian purposes, then the world will change upside down. The cost of atomic power can be reduced considerably. It will also ensure energy source for all of the world's population.

These are the different alternate energy sources that can be used to make life comfortable for all of us.
