Computers and their uses have taken over the world by storm. Next to the printing press the use of computers has been the revolution that has been able to change the world drastically. There have been rapid strides in the development of computers. The size of the computers has been decreasing over the years. The capacity and speed on the other hand have been increasing at a break neck speed.

Desktops were used all over the world until the advent of laptops. Now laptops have been replacing the desktops in sales all over the world. This is because of the various advantages of the laptop over the desktop computers. This article talks of the various advantages of the laptop that will help people who need to buy a computer, but are in a dilemma on whether to purchase a laptop or a desktop.

1. Size: As far as a computer is concerned, size does matter. The smaller the laptop, the easier it is to take to different places. These days when the life is on the fast track, laptops are very important for a person who travels a lot or needs to be connected very often. The small size of laptops make them to be used anywhere by carrying hem around.

2. Weight: The lesser the weight of the laptop, the better it is for people who are usually on the move. The cost of the laptop may increase as the size and weight of the laptop decrease, but it is better to purchase a good one that is light that purchase a laptop that weighs like a desktop.

3. Capacity: Thought the laptop has the advantages of being light and can be carried around, the capacity of the laptop and the various features are not diminished. This is because of the smaller components used in the laptops that allow for all the features and the capacity to be maintained in the small space.

4. Travel: The laptop can be easily carried to various places for business purposes where people may need to make presentations. This gives the laptop an edge, because the individual does not need to carry a storage device and search for a computer in the place where they go to make a presentation.

5. Personal: Laptops are more personal than a desktop. This is because laptops can be kept under single use and under the control of the person. Desktops though private may be accessible for more people and so is not very personal.

6. Connectivity: People who travel or visit different places can be connected with others by using wi-fi technology or other such Internet connections. They do not need to search for a place to browse the Internet from. This is a major advantage as it is easier to get online with a laptop.

These are the major advantages of the laptop over the desktop. There are also various other advantages that are minor in nature. So for a person in a dilemma as to purchase a laptop or a desktop, the advantages of laptops will make them lean to this side of the spectrum.
