Do you want to go back to your childhood days, for some time. Then, this article is for you. We all know that Ooty is known as queen of hills and it is a well known sight seeing place. Have you ever tried to travel by toy train of blue and cream colour, from Mettupalayam to Ooty? Please make a trip to Ooty by this toy train as I am not able to bring everything in words the pleasure of travel I enjoyed. Moreover, this toy train is the symbol of Indian tradition. Coimbatore is a big city in Tamil Nadu, India and popularly known as -Cotton city of India-. You can reach there by train or flight. From there, you can reach Mettupalayam by bus, train or taxi. But, the journey from Mettupalam to Ooty should be performed by this toy train only, even though other vehicles are available. Please make yourselves more comfortable for the tour. Take your friends and family members with you. The children will enjoy each and every moment of the journey. It takes nearly five hours to reach Ooty from Mettupalayam, covering about 48 KM. Mettupalaym is located at the foot of Nilagiri mountain. The Nilagiri passenger rail is known as toy train popularly. It is a small train with few compartments running on a meter guage track. It was designed and built by the swiss locomotive works and even after 100 years, it is very popular among the tourists. The steam engine pushes the train from the back. The train travels at a speed of 16 KM per hour. Some adventurous tourists get down from the train and walk along with the train, for some distance. In the sloppy areas of the rail track, between two tracks there is an additional crank link is available, which provides a grip when the train is climbing up and down on the slope. There is a brakeman in each compartment to operate the locking system which helps to stop the train in slopes and preventing the train from sliding down. When the train is moving, all the doors of the compartment should be closed. The journey begins at Mettupalayam and the train stops at Kallar, Adderley, Hill Grove, Runnymede, Kateri , Coonnor, Wellington, Aravankadu, Ketti, Lovedale and reaches Ooty. During summer season, there will be heavy rush in the train. When the winter is severe and if the path is not clear, the train service will be stopped. Sometimes due to landslide, the train may stop its operation. Throughout the journey, nature welcomes you with chill weather and beautiful sceneries . There are 16 tunnels and the children will shout with joy when the train passes through these tunnels. The train goes like a snake as there are many curves on the way. When the train goes on the tall girder bridges, it makes some rhythmic music which can not be expressed in words. We can fully enjoy when the train moves through forests and tea plantations. The people interested in photography can make good shots when the train moves between Kallar and Adderley. The foreign tourists while making a visit to India should not miss the pleasure of travel by toy train from Mettupalayam to Ooty. Similarly, the Indians can definitely plan to make a trip to Ooty by this toy train. No need to say, this will be an ideal trip for honeymoon couple. As there are many sight seeing places at Coonoor and Ooty, you will enjoy a lot. The Ooty horse race, flower show are also very famous. Wish you a happy journey by toy train.
