Dementia is commonly seen in people of the older age group. It can also affect people in the younger age. With the increasing number of people who are old, there has been an increase in the number of people affected by dementia. Dementia can be very difficult for the family and society to deal. The person affected by dementia may also have many difficulties.

There are a few simple methods that have been found to help in combating dementia and also preventing the occurrence of dementia. They are listed below

1. Regular exercise:
Regular physical exercises help a person to keep the body fit. The physical fitness also helps the person to be mentally fit. The increased mental alertness in turn helps the brain cells to function more and prevents degeneration of the brain cells.

2. Apples and fruits: Fruits are generally good for the person. Apples especially are good for preventing and combating dementia. Apples have a high amount of quercetin. This is an antioxidant that prevents free radicals from affecting the brain tissue. It prevents brain damage and prolongs good mental health.

3. Fish oil: Fish oil, especially cod liver oil and similar stuff are very good for the brain functioning. This is because of the presence of Omega 3 fatty acid found in the fish oil. It has been found that fish oil helped in reducing the risk of Alzheimer's disease.

4. Nutrition: Increased food consumption can also lead to dementia. This is because people who generally eat more have high chance of becoming obese. Physical activity is reduced in people who are obese. This in turn reduces the mental activity leading to dementia.

5. Cholesterol: High cholesterol levels, high blood pressure levels, smoking and diabetes also increases the risks of dementia. Control of these factors can delay or prevent dementia.

6. Broccoli: Folate is very important in the reduction of risk factor for getting dementia. Folate is found in foods like green leafy vegetables. This makes foods like Broccoli as a effective food against dementia.

7. Alcohol: Alcohol in moderation helps in reducing the occurrence of dementia. This probably could have been because of the increased blood supply that occurs after alcohol intake. This could lead to increased alertness and also prevent dementia. It should be understood that increased intake of alcohol could lead to stroke and even death.

These are the important factors that will help in controlling and also preventing the occurrence of dementia. Even diseases like Alzheimer's can be prevented or treated by this method.
